“Whoa. Wait- what?! The guy from my dreams? Nononononononono…I have to get out of here, you have the wrong person. I’m no one important!”
“Catherine, Catherine, Catherine. Don’t you know? Don’t you know why they changed you? You more then important. You control the fate of the world.”
“Geez, no pressure or anything. So why do you want me? Why didn’t you change me first?”
“Because they already had you. Do you know what the sun on your palm does?”
“No… I don’t. But I do know its going to be the color of my wings.”
“The sun on your palm is the symbol of your life. You’re the only person in the world that has a golden sun. Everyone else has stars.”
“That’s enough Azael. Tell her no more. You’ll ruin her life, her mind. Don’t do this until she’s changed.”
“Gabriel... I cannot do that. I need her on my side.”
“I can’t believe- I’m right here! Don’t talk about me like that!”
Gabriel turned to me and smiled warmly. “Sorry Catherine. I didn’t mean to.”
Azael laughed and waved his had at me. “Lets make a deal Gabriel. I win, I get Catherine. You win, you get her.”
I tried to speak but nothing came out.
“What did you do to her Azael?”
“Old magick. Now, the deal?”
“How about this one? If I win, Catherine comes with me. You cannot touch her until we are safely back in my realm. If I lose then it’s the deal we had before.”
“Deal.” He pointed to me and I felt all tingly, my brow furrowed in frustration.
“What are you doing to her?!”
“I’m making it so that we have to fight each other to get her. Run up and touch her palm. That’s the way you win.
“Then lets get started.” A sword and a shield appeared in his hand. Full body armor shimmered over his body, gleaming white. Azael just stood there laughing. Gabriel sprinted towards me, but ran into an invisible wall.
“What…What is this?”
“My way to stop you.” Azael walked towards me with no problem.
“That’s cheating!” Gabriel struggled.
“All is fair, no rules.” He smirked.
“Fine then.” Gabriel waved his hand and made a portal. A light appeared in front of me and Gabriel stepped through it. “Hello Catherine.” Azael started to do the same thing, but Gabriel touched my palm, and the fight was all over. The tingling feeling went away.
“Gabriel…” I hugged him. “Thank you!” He smiled at me. Azael looked murderous.
“I will keep my promise. You shall be safe until you reach your realm. Go on before I change my mind.” Gabriel grabbed my hand and made another portal. He walked through and dragged me with him.
Taking Flight-chapter 6
“Adrian!!! I’m so happy to see you!”
“Adrian you are in SO much trouble.”
“I’m happy to see you too Catherine, I’m sorry I told you to leave the front gates. And I’m sorry Prof. for disobeying you.”
Gabriel nodded at him.
“Its ok Adrian, its my fault as much as it was yours.”
“Catherine… Your glowing…”
“What?”
“Your getting your wings. Look at your palm, the mark should be expanding.” Gabriel said, excited.
“Ow! Why does it have to hurt so much?!”
“It’s the test to see if you can bear it or not. I not then… well… you would die.”
I heard a ripping noise, and with a shock, knew it was coming from me.
“Adrian go get towels. Some dry, some wet. Catherine lay down on your stomach and take off your shirt.” I did as he asked. Adrian came at a flat out run towards us, his arms filled with towels. A red haze filled my vision, and then everything went black.
